Revealed: Shocking Statistics of Suspended and Revoked Licences in 2022 by the SIA.

The SIA has recently published an extensive and detailed report presenting comprehensive statistics and insightful information regarding the substantial number of licences that were suspended and revoked in the year 2022. According to their findings, a staggering total of 954 licences were suspended, while an even more significant figure of 1260 licences were officially revoked during the same period.


A total of 954 SIA licences were suspended during the year.

Here is a breakdown by licence type:

  • Cash & Valuables in Transit (CVIT): 3

  • Close Protection (CP): 46

  • Door Supervisor (DS): 748

  • Key Holding (KH): 1

  • None Front Line (NFL): 9

  • Public Space Surveillance (CCTV): 35

  • Security Guard (SG): 32

Reasons for licence suspension:

In most cases, the SIA will suspend a licence only if they believe that public safety is at risk and revocation is necessary. In other cases, a suspension may be implemented if it is deemed to be in the best interest of the public. This often occurs when a serious offence has been committed or is under investigation by the police or other relevant authorities.

Offences that can result in licence suspension include, but are not limited to:

  • Terrorism

  • Murder

  • Manslaughter

  • Rape

  • Assault occasioning bodily harm, including actual or grievous assault

  • Battery

  • Kidnapping

  • Possession of indecent photographs of children

  • Restriction of production and supply of controlled drugs


A total of 1260 SIA licences were revoked during the year.

  • Cash & Valuables in Transit (CVIT): 1

  • Close Protection (CP): 24

  • Door Supervisor (DS): 1051

  • Key Holding (KH): 1

  • None Front Line (NFL): 4

  • Public Space Surveillance (CCTV): 69

  • Security Guard (SG): 52

Why were these licences revoked?

SIA licences are commonly revoked under the following circumstances:

  1. Fraudulent Documentation: If you obtained your SIA security licence using fraudulent documents or a fraudulent identity, or if the licence has been used by someone other than you.

  2. False Training Qualifications: If you do not possess the training qualifications that you claimed to have during your application process.

  3. Criminal Offences: If you receive a conviction, caution, warning, or any other type of criminal offence while holding your SIA security licence.

  4. Right to Work: If you have been working with an SIA security licence without the right to work, or if the relevant authorities have informed the SIA that you do not have the right to work or are residing in the United Kingdom illegally.
